Castelfeder
Since the foundation of Castelfeder Winery by Alfons Giovanett in 1969, many things have changed. The winery, which has been in family hands for three generations, manifests its character with a symbiosis of tradition and a pioneering spirit. Today, grapes from 70 hectares of vineyards are vinified in total. Since 2011, the family is also dedicated to the Mosel region of Germany, cultivating the steep-sloped Riesling vineyard Sorentberg. Despite new challenges such as climate change, market expansion and new trends in the wine industry, the family has managed to balance between tradition and modernity, with great sensitivity.

The high location of this vineyard, about 600 m, as well as the favourable temperature fluctuations are decisive for this aromatic wine. Falling winds in the evening lower the temperature and guarantee an optimal development of the grape. From typo to cult status. Since the grapes of the Sauvignon ripened faster, people wanted to name the wine after it. At some point, someone at the winery mixed up the spelling and voila - the new name Raif was born.

The name „Vom Stein“ refers to the soil structure of the vineyards of this Pinot Bianco. Their soil is dominated by dolomite limestone which give this wine its fine structure, elegance and freshness. Beside Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon the grape variety Pinot Bianco is one of the most important varieties for South Tyrol.

The vineyard where the grapes of this Pinot Grigio grow is called “15” and the name refers to the position plan of the vineyards in this village. The Pinot Grigio 15 by Castelfeder shines in the glass in a light straw yellow with golden highlights. Fruity and fresh aromas unfold in the nose. Clearly in the foreground are crisp apples followed by juicy Abé Fetel pears and subtle hints of quince and peach. As a grape variety with a dark coloured berry skin Pinot Grigio was often used to produce “Ramato” which resembles a rosé wine. Despite its red skinned berries it is not possible to produce a red wine. In South Tyrol Pinot Grigio is one of the most famous grape varieties and brings out powerful, structured white wines.
